Why is my hair greasy?

Why is my hair greasy

Common reasons why your hair is greasy

There may be one or more causes of your hair is becoming greasy on a regular basis, and these may include:

  1. You may have a naturally oilier hair type. For example, Type 1A is very well known for quickly becoming greasy.

  2. You live in a dusty, warm, or high humidity environment, making you and your hair sweaty. This helps dust and dirt in the environment stick to your hair.

  3. You may not be rinsing your hair well enough after using your conditioner.

  4. You are not shampooing your hair for long enough.

  5. The shampoo you are using may be too mild.

  6. You may be playing with your hair a lot.

  7. You may be using a brush that is dirty. Brushes should be cleaned regularly to remove old hair, dirt and dust.

How to help prevent greasy hair

There are a lot of things you could change that could help prevent your hair from becoming greasy these include:

  1. Try changing your shampoo and conditioner. This is because you may be using a shampoo that is either too mild to efficiently remove dirt and grease built up on your hair or your conditioner is leaving residue on your hair which can affect your hair in the subsequent days. It is also possible that either your shampoo or conditioner is reacting with or aggravating your scalp, so change one or both and see if that makes a difference.

  2. Try increasing the amount of time you are shampooing your hair or consider reducing the amount of time you are leaving your conditioner on.

  3. If you play with your hair a lot, try to reduce this as you will be transferring grease and grime to your hair.

  4. Inspect your brush and hair styling tools and carefully and safely clean them if necessary. Give these a go and you should notice your hair becoming less greasy.
