You should be washing your hair 2-3 times a week at the most.
What determines how often you should be washing our hair?
We wash our hair to clean it (removing dirt and grease). The number of times you need to wash your hair will depend on many different factors, for example:
How active you are
What shampoo you are using, and does it contain sulfates?
Where you live (how humid and how much dust is around)
How long your hair is
Your hair type
How hard your water is (the amount of magnesium or calcium within your water)
What shampooing does to your hair?
Shampooing not only removes dirt from your hair but also any essential oils present. Essential oils are needed for your hair to be healthy.
It can be beneficial to use a little less shampoo during washing which can help make shampooing friendlier to your hair. This is undoubtedly true if you are using a sulfate-containing shampoo.
Shampooing your hair too much can result in your hair becoming dry, especially if you are using sulfate-containing shampoos. So, make sure you are using a good sulfate-free conditioner that ideally contains added oils suitable for hair, for example, coconut and argan oil.

These are sulfate and silicone-free shampoo and conditioners we have used ourselves and recommend to everyone looking to experiment with sulfate and silicone-free shampoos. All Faith-in-nature shampoos and conditioners are sulfate and silicone-free, with many products under their brand containing essential hair oils such as coconut oil, making them a very healthy and welcome addition to your hair regime. The Faith-in-nature products we have tested have possessed, in our opinion, a very soft fragrance. Both are certainly worth trying if you are looking to move away from traditional shampoo and conditioning products towards more natural-mild ingredients. Let us know how you get on!
