How much hair do I have?
On average, a person has 5 million hair follicles on their body, with approximately one hundred thousand present on their head. Many hair scientists believe that the number of follicles does not change significantly as you get older. However, some follicles do stop producing hair fibres, resulting in hair being thinner and, in some cases, balding.
Dispelling a myth: The number of hair fibres or follicles on your head is not related to the colour of your hair! So redheads do not possess less hair than blonds and brunettes. The data suggests that there is no statistical relationship.
